Q: How do I transfer my applecare from one device to another that I own?

My iPhone 6 Plus was stolen and I have a new iPhone 6S.  I had applecare on my 6 Plus so I want to transfer my applecare over to my new device.  I tried to email the agmts_transfer@apple.com but it is coming back as undeliverable.  Has the email address changed?

In general AppleCare covers the device, not the owner. So you can't transfer AppleCare to a different device, except within 30 days of the original purchase.

I believe L. Finch is not correct based on this statement in the article I referred you to that you did not read:

When we replace your device instead of repairing it, we’ll automatically transfer your plan to your new device. If transfer of coverage isn’t possible, we’ll offer other options.

The OP did not have their device replaced by Apple. They purchased a new device....

A stolen device is not replaced by Apple.....a defective one is.

It may be treated in the same way. The article does not deal specifically with a stolen item that you replaced and that had AppleCare. I would argue it's worth an inquiry. Of course if you and Mr. Finch are experienced Apple employees who have dealt with something like this, then I would be wrong.

It would not be treated in the same way as purchasing a new iPhone is a totally new and separate purchase. There is no ambiguity as to what you quoted:

When we replace your device instead of repairing it....

This has to do with devices that are replaced by Apple as a replacement for a device that you have AppleCare on. A new device that you purchase has nothing to do with the warranty or with the transfer of AppleCare.

Neither Lawrence nor I are Apple employees. We are volunteers and are users just like you. However, we have been around the block a few times, and this particular question is not really debatable.

    Cheers,

I don't wish to debate with either of you. I just don't think the matter is conclusive without confirming information from Apple. Hence, my belief that it's worth an inquiry.

    Explain to me how:

When we replace your device instead of repairing it, we’ll automatically transfer your plan to your new device. If transfer of coverage isn’t possible, we’ll offer other options.

is not conclusive. I think the "instead of repairing it" is the clincher here. You cannot repair a device that has been stolen, hence, the word "replace" here refers to giving someone a new or refurbished device as a replacement for a defective phone that is still under warranty and which Apple cannot repair. When someone purchases a new phone, it may be considered a "replacement" to the purchaser, but it is is a brand new phone sale to Apple.....

I agree, it is worth a call to Apple Customer Service to see if they can get a credit back for the AppleCare Plus policy they had to use towards a new device. They cannot transfer it. They will also need to have a copy of their receipt for the purchase of the phone and the plan and a copy of the police report for the theft.
