IMovie is quitting after upgrade to OS X El Capitan

Even though my computer is now 5 years old, everything was fine with my creating and posting over 500 videos using IMovie 2011 to You Tube. I recently upgraded to OS X El Capitan and within days after that I experienced difficulty in trying to export clips that I select for working in IMovie. I can only check one or two and then the "color circle" appears allowing no further work and IMovie crashes and I am taken back to my desk top. Never had that problem before. I wonder if any of this is related to the fact that when the upgrade took place I learned that Flip4Mac was considered "incompatible software". Not sure why and/or if that is important.

Most of the discussion of this problem in this forum dates back to 2012 and since this is 2016 I wonder if any newer remedies exist. Help!

A related problem is that I am no longer able to click and drag "jpg" photos from my desk top to IMovie - something I was able to do with no problem before. Different issue I know but maybe someone has advice on that as well?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info here! Have to say though that when I saw the many many many negative reviews of IMovie 10.1.1 I decided against going that route.

IMovie is a big part of my computer activity - so want it to be flawless.

Will look into buying a new IMac - got five years out of the old one so it's time. But do want to thank you again for taking the time to write.

If you buy a new Mac you will have to run El Capitan on it so iMovie 10.1.1 will be the only choice. Much of the reaction against iMovie 10 is irritation about the unfamiliar user interface. It actually has a lot of improvements. It does however, do away with a number of features that many people liked such as wrapped timeline and integration with iDVD and has dropped support for some older cameras (though there is usually a workaround for that).

I upgraded from Snow Leopard and none of my IMovies, IDVD, IPage apps will import media and the wimpy slideshows you are able to make in IPhoto won't transfer to a disk and I can't find out how to burn back up copies of my event photos now. Nothing seems to work except the internet. I am really frustrated. No wonder MAC needs support groups, surprised they're not 12 step programs.
