Q: Moved ABC.photoslibrary to iCloud Drive - no i can't open it

Hi everyone - I have MacBook Air (13",  2013). Because of the limited disk space i made an iCloud drive subscription and i moved "Fotos-Mediathek.photoslibrary" (24,68GB) and iPhoto-Mediathek.migratedphotolibrary (19,71 GB)  to it. Now i can neither move them to an external hard drive nor to my disk space. Can anyone help me? When i go to i the iCloud drive folder there is a dotted cloud sign besides the my files. The downloading is not working. Thank you in advance for helping.

iCloud Drive is not designed for holding and using a Photos library on it.  You'll have to wait until the upload is completed and them move the library out of the local iCloud Drive folder and back to the Pictures folder.

If you want to be able to sync you Photos library with other of your devices use the iCloud Photos Library feature.  These Apple documents describe the iCPL feature:

I think the upload is completed -but i can not move it. It doesn't move via drag and drop. Any chance to get back my files?

Try holding down the Option key and drag the library from the iCloud Drive folder to your Pictures folder.  Once the copying is complete open the newly copied folder to verify that all of the photos are there, are full sized and the library operates as expected. Once that is established delete the library from the iCloud Drive folder.

How much free storage do you have on your MacBook Air, Daniel?

iCloud Drive does not save storage on your Mac. It keeps shadow copies of all files you upload in your user library.

The process will first upload the items to iCloud, then download again to your Mac, and only when this download is complete, you will be able to drag the libraries from the iCloud Drive folder back to another local folder.

The problem is, that you cannot yet be sure, if the download completed, because the libraries are bundles of nested folders, that just look like one item.  If you no longer see a cloud icon or a progress bar on the library, the folders inside may still need downloading.  So ctrl-click the library on iCloud drive and select "show package contents". Then check, if the folders inside have been downloaded, or if you are seeing cloud icons on any folders inside when you open them.  It should look like this. Until the sync is complete, many subfolders may be empty.
