Q: Husband and I want to share music but not personal contacts /data

HI

Husband and I usually share one iTunes with music and apps on old windows pc and he used the iCloud to back up and I used the pc to back up that way we didn't share contacts , etc.  We have just brought new mac air and new iPad air. The iPhones we use are 4gs. With excitement I turned on mac and set up with the same apple id we both use. I was hoping as I now have apple everything that it would be easier to have everything in one place all synced together but not shared contacts etc .... But I'm now stuck!

I would like to have both iPhones and new iPad (that i have not turned on yet or assigned anything to yet ) and mac. all using the same music and apps,( most of the music is on a separate hard drive assigned to old iTunes on old pc)  i would like to now be able to use the cloud as i have never been able to before because of what i have said previously i don't want husband and mine personnel data joined up.

i have looked around net and this site and there seems to be several ways but as I'm new to mac I'm just learning also.( I'm ok and know how to use my iPhone).i presume iPad is just a big iPhone ...

I heard ideas that setting up two different apple ids  that sounds the best option but how does sharing music and apps work if you have two apple ids on one iTunes can this be done? I'm scared to try anything as I have had problems before losing my contacts on my phone!!!!!

Can you have 2 ids on one iTunes or do I need 2 iTunes ....and can you share music and apps with out personal data and contacts also not fussed about sharing photos also.

it all sounds vey complicated ...so a clear step by step would help please...

i have so many sinarios in my head what i want to do. omg I'm using the new pc now and my husbands calendars reminders are going off on this mac while he's at work ,i don't want to interfere with them will they still remind him on his phone if they have reminded this mac !!!! oh confusing anyway first question is the most important , thanks for any help

You will want to set up Family Sharing....You can customize the features you want to share or not share....

    hi

i did set up family sharing but as we have the same Apple ID each time we requested each other it said we are already on there .. I think we have to have separate Apple ids . I think what I'm after is a shared account with 2 profiles... I don't think Apple do that... Will this be the same 2 Apple ids with family sharing ? Will we both be able to use the Apple iPad and Mac with 2 ids? So if I go on the iPad will I get my stuff up and then if my husband goes on the iPad will he get his stuff up .? how does that work? Or do I need to create 2 users on the iPad and Mac?

    thanks for your help

also my phone is backed up manually to old windows Pc on shared iTunes .. I would like to use the cloud as my husband does but I'm scared if I change over . Or do anything I usually loose all my contacts .!?  can u help give me confidence this won't happen

Unfortunately if you share the same Apple ID (like my wife and I do) you can't separate out things like calendars and contacts.

(For me the bigger issue is that sometimes I will see missed calls that went to her iPhone on my iPhone but she did not pick up.)
