My Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones are not recognized as an input device by my Macbook Pro

Hello

I have a Mac Book Pro running on OSX 10.10.2. My problem is that when I connect my Bose headset into the headphone jack on the left side of my macbook, it doesn't recognize that an external microphone is available to use. Essentially, when I plug the bose headset into the jack, the sound input window does not show "External Microphone", it only shows "Internal Microphone". The bose headset has a built in mic that I know is functional (from use on other devices).

This is not an issue of course with the stock headphone/microphone headsets that apple provides with their iphones and etc, since it does show an "External Microphone" when connected, so I know it is capable of detecting an external microphone.

I'm not sure if there is any software or updates that I would need to install to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), null

you wouldn't believe it, but there's a solution...apple's headsets have 4 rings while most other headphone have 3 rings. so you'd need a TRS---> TRRS adapter plugged into your MacBook Pro, gues it needs the extra ring for power or something like that. You'd also have to go into sound inputs, which you can show quickly by holding down the option key and clicking on the speaker icon at the top of your screen, and setting your sound input to microphone

anwyays, just my 2 cents
