Apr 8, 2016 1:57 PM in response to Old Toadby Jack Cunningham,NOTHING is opened on my desktop except my browser and Word. Nothing is working so far from all suggestions. I've dragged all the 5 things from the trash, put each one back in and it still won't empty any one of them.

Apr 8, 2016 2:07 PM in response to Jack Cunninghamby Old Toad,Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple Support personnel) in the ASC to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Apr 8, 2016 2:13 PM in response to Old Toadby Jack Cunningham,I can certainly do that, but I'm wondering why it won't work in the first place. Two items are jpgs I made and the others are photos from my camera. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Apr 8, 2016 2:17 PM in response to Old Toadby Jack Cunningham,Okay, I just logged out and back in and it emptied the trash. But my concern is why doesn't it do it in the first place? This has been a problem many, many times. I simply want to empty the trash! I'll definitely Etrecheck and get back to see if anyone can help me. Thank you all, Connie

Apr 8, 2016 2:26 PM in response to Jack Cunninghamby Old Toad,That's indicative of system problems. Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and see if you can delete the files and open the zip file.
