Convert VOB fies for iMovie?

I recently had some old 8mm video tapes converted to DVD and the files are VOB, which I now realize you can't import to iMovie. Any workarounds or recommendations on applications that will convert VOB files to iMovie files? Would conversion to MOV result in the best quality and less loss?
