Q: How do I remount my Time Machine backup drive for El Capitan OS?
I am running an iMac [early 2008 model] with a processor speed of 2.66 GHz Intel core 2 duo with 4GB memory with 126.54GB free storage. I am running El Capitan OS but have encountered two (2) problems with this update. This is my first time using this post site so I may have placed my problems in the wrong forum so I apologize for this error.
My first problem is that I cannot access my email through the mail app included with the OS upgrade. I upgraded in the past to Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion OS without any problems but not this time.. I had to upgrade so I could do my taxes since my tax software will not accept anything below OS 10.9. Both my account and my wife's account have disappeared along with the email messages. Is there anyway I can correct this problem so I get both accounts to appear in the mail program along with the email messages?? Please help. Thank you!
My second problem is with Time Machine. I accidentally hit the eject/dismount button on the screen and lost all my backups since 2012. I was hoping to restore to Mountain Lion to get my email information returned and then retry to upgrade to El Capitan since neither Mavericks or Yosemite are now no longer available. The preferences in Time Machine show 2 copies of my external disk backup [a Western Digital desktop 1TB drive] but the first copy only gives me the option to remove this disk copy but I am uncertain what will happen if I remove that copy of this disk. The 2nd copy gives me the choice to use this disk as the backup but the problem is that it only backs up the current information. The first disk shows only downloads when in restore but dates are dimmed. I don't understand how one could lose information just by hitting the eject icon/key. That does not happen to CDs or DVDs! Any useful help will be greatly appreciated. Sorry about the long description but I am in a time crunch and trying to explain best way I can for now.
Thank you all for your time and patience.
