Q: iPhone and iPad no longer messaging

MY iPhonemane my iPad used to be seamless, I would get my text messages shared with my iPad and I could respond to them while on my iPad. I could also answer my iPhone on my iPad. Now, they are disconnected. This new. Update w as supposed to fix this issue, but hasn't done a thing, if anything, it's worse.

BLuetooth doesn't help, the only way I connect them is through hot spotting and it really isn't the solution either. How can I reconnect them???

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.3.1, iPad 4

    Howdy Marg£,

It sounds like your iPad and iPhone aren't connecting like they used to. It seems to me from what you describe that the devices Continuity settings may need to be gone over to make them talk to each other again. This article should help you do that:

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

All Apple devices are connected according to my iPhone and iPad but still no communication since the last update. In fact the last update wiped out my history of messaging on my iPad entirely. I can no longer send or receive messages via my iPad 4. Perhaps I just need to contact Apple Support and send my iPhone in for repair? Still covered . You would think it would all work but it just does not. It really did all work tickety-boo until the last update that was apparently supposed to fix the issue. Totally hooped here. I cannot think of anything else that I can do to turn on, adjust, or fix the issue. So annoying. i have an old iPhone 4 that I use for an iPod now and it too has been cut from the loop.

Thanks for the update! Since the iPhone is sort of the hub of communication between all the devices I would quit all the running apps on the phone:

Force an app to close in iOS

    1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
    2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
    3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
