I am using Excel tor Mac.
I have been sent a spreadsheet in 'Numbers'. For what I need to do in Excel I use Copy > right click to 'Paste special' > values.
Job done.
When I try that with the clipboard from 'Numbers' the Paste special window offers me options of PDF, Picture, HTML, Unicode Text and Text.
I'd greatly appreciate some advice.

Do the conversion in Numbers.
"Paste Special > Values" in Excel = "Paste Formula Results" in Numbers.
Here is a Numbers document with a formula in column C
Select and copy column C.
Add another column (D).
In column D, Menu > Edit > Paste Formula Results.
The values are now Actual (no formulas).
Copy column D and Paste into Excel.

Edit: I am using Numbers 3.6.1 on OS X El Capitan. If your profile is up to date (and you are using Numbers '09) the menu command is "Paste Values" not "Paste Formula Results"

Numbers can open (most) Excel documents but Excel cannot open Numbers documents. You should have the sender File > Export to > Excel... Or you can do that yourself after opening the document with Numbers on your Mac. Then you will be able to open the exported document with Excel. Some formatting and other features may be lost but it seems to work reasonably well in most cases. If you are just transferring some data, not a whole document, sometimes it's easier to just copy-paste between the two applications.
