Q: Needed iOS operating system forums?

Yes we have iOS Apps, and individual App forums for iOS, but no iOS Using forum like there is for Mac OS X.

Threads such as these appear:

Ability to record iOS screen broken in 10.11.4 ?!

And people want to know if features of iOS is broken or differently implemented with a new iOS, or if they can sync to a new iOS before upgrading.

This is especially the case when you have automatic messages trying to force you to update to a newer iOS every time there is a new release.

Please provide individual iOS forums from 1 to 9 in whatever grouping you think would help.

The only thing I do not like is downloading without my knowledge. I have nothing against updates and I do not wish to "block" them and I do not get messages (and I have no idea where you got that impression); however, I prefer to wait a day or two until after the dust settles so to speak to hear if anyone is having a problem with it or not. And, more importantly, I do not like having it downloaded without my knowledge which is what it has done. If/when there is a "1" showing, it will then show me in Settings that it has downloaded the update and do I want to install it now. I simply want it to ask me or wait for me to download. I don't like any device downloading anything without my knowledge or expressly having said "yes". I also prefer doing it through iTunes rather than wirelessly as the connection works better wired. I don't care about the little "1" showing on the icon. I've never said that I wanted to roll back on iOS; as for Mac OS, I know how to do that and that is why I maintain external partitions with bootable, factory fresh clones of several OS versions. For one thing, they will easily allow me to revert to a factory fresh state if I want to sell/donate, but the more important thing is: I can boot into them and run some older software which is no longer working in the newer versions. And that is one of the reasons why I have started to only buy refurbs from certain years to make sure they can run which version I want it to run.

FWIW, everything I've said only applies to automatic and unannounced downloads of  iOS updates - any apps just happily wait until I update them.

Sorry babowa, was addressing all the threads here with my response to yours. The few times I've experienced it downloading without my knowledge was on my iPad after not using it for a couple of days. The next night when I charged it the update was downloaded. Normally I watch it downloading. I seriously doubt the auto download for iOS will ever change.

I update when one is available so I don't get the messages and I've only had once where it updated overnight (it will only do this when connected to a charger and on a WiFi connection).

I Have never, ever seen this behavior. My wife has an iPhone 5s as do I, and while I update mine (along with my iPad) as soon as the updates come out, I have her trained to never install a downloaded update. I do it for her. In the three plus weeks that iOS 9.3.1 has been out, she is still able to dismiss the update notification. I watched her do it again last night. Her phone is plugged in to charge every night and constantly connected to WiFi while charging and the update still hasn't installed on its own.... Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

No you aren't misunderstanding. As I said previously I've only had one where it downloaded but as others have said here they have seen it occur on their devices and there are many posts here about the same behavior. I have no idea what the threshold is for Apple downloading the .ipsw file to a device but I do know that they are correct and it does happen. The only way you can determine this has happened is watching the update and noticing that it blips by the download step or using something like iExplorer and finding the file on the device.

And note I said that it DOWNLOADS the file, not that it INSTALLS the update.

There is only one time I recall where Apple pushed a security update onto iPhones (it did not have a number) and it was well covered in the trades and news that they did so.

Then I did misunderstand, this is also the point that I was trying to make. I have never seen one of my iOS devices install an update without user input. I only go back to the original iPad. Never owned an iPhone until I bought the iPhone 5s, which I still use, back in September of 2013.
