Apple WatchOnly the 27" iMac has user upgradable ram. Did you remove the power cord? https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2639+RAM+Replacement/20249

Apr 9, 2016 2:58 PM in response to Duaneby Duane,Sorry I must have been looking at something else.
Mike post a link to the iMac 27" RAM replacement instructions.

Photos for MacIs your iMac a 21.5" or 27" model? If it is a 21.5" model RAM is not upgradable.

Apr 9, 2016 4:06 PM in response to rkaufmann87by Duane,The RAM in the 21.5" is upgradeable but not "user upgradeable" as defined by Apple.

Mac App StoreSome further info regarding the 21.5" Late 2013 iMac from EveryMac.com…
*By default, this system has 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM. Apple does not intend for one to upgrade the RAM in this system. However, as first reported by site sponsor OWC, this system has two SO-DIMM slots (204-pin). Unfortunately, accessing these slots requires one to pry off the display that is glued to the case and remove the logic board.

DesktopsI'm sorry. I should have said my iMac is a 27" model from late 2013.
It does have a memory module access door but no release button over the power cable jack.
If the memory upgrade page is accessed, you will see that the late 2013, 27" model has no reference saying one way or the other whether it can be upgraded or not.
Do you know what the horizontal slot below the power cord jack is for ? I thought it might be the unlock to allow the door to be opened but perhaps it is a test cord jack.

Apr 9, 2016 8:09 PM in response to Mike Sombrioby Christopher Scholfield,Mike, do you know what the horizontal slot below the power cord jack is for ?
P.S. I tried removing the power cord but the door did not open.

Apr 9, 2016 8:15 PM in response to Christopher Scholfieldby Duane,Did you take a look at the page referenced by Mike? It clearly shows a button above the power cord that you push and the RAM door opens.

Apr 9, 2016 8:40 PM in response to Duaneby Christopher Scholfield,Unfortunately a button on a page does not help me. My 27", late 2013 iMac has no such button.
-
Apr 9, 2016 8:45 PM in response to Christopher Scholfieldby Duane,Go to "About this Mac" and post what it says after iMac. If you don't have that button you probably don't have a late 2013 27"iMac.
