Q: What cable to target display Thunderbolt to MiniDP?
Hi,
I have decided to update my current iMac which is 7 years old and getting on a bit with the technology given it is usb 2 and stuff.
There is one thing I am trying to figure out even after looking at the apple website I am not sure of the cable I need.
So the current Mac has a mini display port and I want to be able to use that as a secondary monitor to my new one when it comes. From my reckoning I need a mini display port to thunderbolt cable?. However I am not able to find any of these types of cables hence the reason I might be thinking incorrectly.
So...basically what cable do I need to go from Thunder to Mini display port? Is it just a thunder to thunder? as they both seem to have the same type of connector.?
Thanking You
iMac

Go to > Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support
There you can check to see if,
1. your old iMac supports Target Display Mode
2. which cable is needed for that model
