Q: Apple Watch exercise minutes not logging properly

For about the past week, I have not been able to reach my daily targeted 30 minutes of exercise on my apple watch. Before this, I would reach this goal easily by the end of the day, often well before that. I am a fairly active person. I teach on a college campus and walk to my classes and meetings in multiple buildings every day. Even on less active days, my normal activities were enough to help me reach and often exceed my exercise goal. However, now I am lucky if I accumulate half of the 30 minutes. Here are some other things to note:

1. The measurement of my steps seems to be low.

2. The other activities--calories and stand-- seem to be accumulating normally.

3. When I open the fitness app and start an exercise (usually a run an an elliptical) it seems to work normally.

4. This definitely seemed to start happening after downloading the latest watch ios.

5. I have rebooted and restarted the watch and my iphone multiple times and this does not seem to have fixed the problem.

Suggestions and advice are welcome!

Richard

    Hi Richard

To credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk. The definition of this depends upon your personal information. To check and, if necessary, to update your personal information:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit.

During general daily wear, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of crediting progress towards the Exercise goal. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you move around.

Calibrating your watch also helps to improve the accuracy of various estimations (including Exercise credit) made by the Activity app and Workout app. More information and instructions for calibrating your watch are available via the link below.

As your pattern of activity does not seem to have changed significantly, it may otherwise help to:

    • Reset your calibration data and start the process afresh:
      • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > tap on Reset Calibration Data.

    • Try unpairing and re-pairing your watch (as you have already tried restarting both devices):
