Why does apple slow down old devices?

All I am seeing in your posting are things like, I remember this, I believe that, A friend said this or that.

Not real substantiated proof or evidence to support your rather pointed allegations in your post.

Your iPhone 6 plus is still a fairly new iDevice.

You should not be having ANY issues with it!!!

If it is having the kind of issues as you describe, you should take it into your "local" Apple Store or Apple Authorized reseller/repair/service center for a complete diagnostic and possible replacement if something in your iPhone 6S has gone defective.

All malarky. I have an iPhone 4s, 5s, and 7Plus, and they are all running the latest iOS. They have no slow down whatsoever, so you might want to take a look at what you have on your device that could be using a lot of cpu, determine if you have apps or other media running on your device that was not purchased via the iTunes Store, and then see if you can figure out which of them may be causing the problem.

Check your memory - do you have enough? Are you using iCloud services such as iCloud Photo Library, or Apple Music?

Have you tried backing up your iPhone 6, then erasing it and restoring it as NEW to see how it performs? Then erase it again and restore it to the backup and see how it performs. If you see a significant difference in performance, then you know that your data is corrupted, and you need to set up your device from "scratch". (which really isn't by "scratch" since you can sign back into iCloud to sync back all of your iCloud data, and you can download any of your media manually). I would suggest if you go this route, you download your apps in small groups and then work with the phone to see if you perceive any degradation in speed. If you don't, then keep adding apps. If you get to to a point where the phone starts slowing down, then delete the last set of apps you added and then download them one at a time to see if you can pinpoint the one or ones that are causing the issue.

In the U.S., you can file a law suit against almost anyone for almost anything. And they frequently do. All it proves is that people can file lawsuits. A man sued a dry cleaner for $67 million for losing his pants, claiming severe mental anguish.

Hi, nothing to add re the trade off between new technology and viability of older products. As a practical matter, if you want to join the masses: I just traded in my old iPad 2 and got $100 for it.* (You just bring it to the Apple Store when purchasing your new device.). An entry new iPad is $329. So for net $229, you can have a new iPad which will run quickly with all modern apps.

* value depends on condition of device. I'm sure yours is good based on your description so you should get the same as I did.

Apple doesn't stop making parts for older devices when a new one is released. They eventually stop servicing devices but, it's generally after about 7 years.

Is Ford still making parts for the Model A?

Not really fair to compare consumer electronics devices to cars since average consumer devices and products only supply parts and service for a limited amount of years.

Can you still get parts for consumer electronic devices from the 1960's, through say, the year 2000?

BTW, may old iDevices are still purring right along.

You are not required to accept any updates if you feel they will not meet your needs. I grant you, Apple is pretty insistent but it's still possible not to update.

And remember, updates are not primarily generated to introduce new bells and whistles. New releases are, but updates are usually for fixing bugs, fine tuning to make things work more efficiently, and most importantly, to update security settings. Keeping up with those who spend 24/7 trying to figure out to hack your precious device with all of your personal information that you keep on the device and the device only (very bad idea), is a never-ending battle, so, as often as a new piece needs to be put in to protect our devices, the better.

This isn't an exact comparison. GM stopped stopped supplying parts after 15 or so years for my '93 corsica.

Yes, there were secondary parts suppliers, but try to get an uncommon part on the secondary part market.

Hello. I have been having the same issues on my mid 2010 mac book pro. I have not changed anything I do since i purchased it. However, since to upgrade to el-capitan my mac book has been almost unusable. It takes ages to boot, it runs very slow, opens programs, browser and applications very slow.

I then once reinstalled the original mac osx, that came with it ...which was hassle, it was like the system didn't want to allow a downgrade, but I somehow tricked it and was eventually able to reinstall the old version of the OS that my mac book came with.

After this, my mac was running smooth again, unfortunately, I was not able to install and run vital software that I had been using and also upgraded perviously.

Not sure if this is deliberate or not. However, I have come accross like minded people, when searching the tearm "apple deliberately slowing down..", after my wife pointed out that she had found an article about this.

I am hoping that an extra 4Gb of ram and a SSD drive will do the trick for a wile.

If you know of a crack to unchain the mac, please let me know.

the reason behind this is apple is pushing people to buy new products. but may be you can do factory resetting to avoid the unnecessary application. after doing that my I pad worked very fast.

Really? You have some special insight into the nefarious workings and plottings of Apple? Here's the reality. Technology moves at a lightning pace. You cannot expect a device or Mac you purchase to be able to keep up with the newest innovations, apps, bells, whistles, all the goo-gaw that everybody is clamoring for. My iPhone 1 and Origianl iPad both function extremely well. They are limited in their capabilities, since they not only lack the new technological advances in hardware, chips, speed, etc. but they are running very old version of the iOS that developers no longer support.

But the original version of the apps, and the original functionality of the device do exactly what they were designed to do with the knowledge and advancements that were available at the time.

In the mean time, I have wanted to take advantage of advances, so I eventually moved to an iPhone 4, iPhone 5s, and now iPhone 7. I don't feel the need to get a new phone every time one comes out, and, in fact, I would still be able to fully participate in the Apple biosphere with my iPhone 5s.

So, no. It is not some great conspiracy to get you to keep buying new devices. If you want to keep up with the latest and greatest, then face the reality that technology moves fast, and you are going to get the best performance and most satisfying experience by using a device that is at least no more than one or two releases behind the current new iPhone.

Some anyymous website, ironically called "Anonymous" posted a story from an unknown anonymous person with an alias about some anonymous study from some suppposed student, who may or may not be a student from Harvard, to prove this unproven and "mythical" and ridiculous theory about Apple, intentionally, slowing down their own devices, solely based on posted anonymous user complaints from a bunch of anonymous website searches for such complaints!

Dems dare some "real proof" right dem dare, all right!
