Q: I have an ipod classic which itunes will not recognize.

HI I was after some advice about how to get music onto my ipod Classic. Apparently this is a common problem that itunes will no longer recognise a classic.

Can anyone offer some advice please.

Thanks

Not a "common" problem.  But it does happen, for various reasons.

When you connect it to your computer, watch the iPod's screen.  Does it says "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" or give other indication that there is a connection?  Does it only show the battery charging symbol?  Or does it not react at all to being connected?

As a test, shut down the computer and disconnect all USB devices?  You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter, so that it's not running on battery power.  Do this to Reset (restart) the iPod

Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support  (see section iPod with a click wheel)

Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the iPod to a direct USB port, by itself.  Is there any difference?

Also, do you use a Mac or Windows PC?  If Windows, what version?  What version is iTunes?
