I know this is a really old post, but I completely agree with you. I have removed BT from my house completely. The reason i'm not buying an ATV4 is because they do not allow you to turn off BT like they did on ATV3. I use the wifi remote on my phone so I have absolutely no need for the new remote and it's function. If anyone figures out how to rip out the BT chip from ATV4 - please post...
I’m completely with you, Paketa86. EMF/RF electrosmog are becoming out of control in our homes, and most people haven’t the slightest comprehension of what it really does, nor are they keeping up with the science. You are wise to be so concerned. I just ripped the WiFi card out of my ”smart” Frigidaire A/C unit. Anyhow, while we may not be able to disable the BT Radio, you can always make or buy a faraday cage velcro bag to put the device itself inside. That’s what I’m looking at doing at this point. Cheers.
I don't think so as it's required for the Siri remote.
thanks, I read that you can still use the old apple IR remote with it though - does anyone know if that's true and if so whether bluetooth could then be turned off?
Yes, the old remote works fairly well and I use both, and generally prefer it unless doing something that needs the Siri commands or touchpad.
I've not checked about turning BT off in the menus but do you have a reason for doing so?
thanks, that's useful to know about the remote. The reason is probably a bit silly but we're a bit over cautious about our toddler being around bluetooth.
Can't see an off option in the menus - I'd be surprised if there was one.

Wise to be cautious - it's really an unkwown - perhaps just limit TV time as would be sensible anyway? The issue I guess is that AppleTV might need to be turned off. Not sure how the low energy of BT 4.0 on AppleTV 4.0 translate into actual power of the EMF. I wonder if you let the Siri remote battery run down so it's off if the BT chip in AppleTV then goes into a low power mode automatically if not connected?
Hi, Did you ever figure out if the BT chip sleeps using a 3rd Gen remote on AppleTV 4th gen? Before buying one, I wanted to know if this was successful. Or if there is a way to turn off BT altogether. Thanks!
