iTunes gift card

iTunes purchases ignores the credit that is has been redeemed via iTunes gift card

Instead uses my credit card on my account.

iPhone 6s, Windows XP, none that I can say

You're not a family organiser in family sharing, and aren't gifting content ? Neither of those will use an account's balance. If not try contacting iTunes Support : https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

tthe issue was using the camera to scan the bar code on redeeming

oonce i put it manually it was solved thats what I was told to do and it worked

Could be a number of reasons e.g. the camera, letter I being recognised as 1, letter O as 0 or vice versa
