Two choices:
(1) I suggest that you use some kind of IP security camera. The IP solution will let you monitor your security cameras from anywhere that has Internet access using your Mac's browser or its dedicated iOS app.
You can shop locally for help determining which IP security cameras best meet your specific needs. If you want to shop on your own, a web search for "IP security cameras" will give you a multitude of choices. Here is a link to one example that gets good customer reviews, offers its own battery backup in case of power outages, and claims Apple compatibility. If you have other specific needs like professional remote monitoring or offsite video file storage, you can search for those requirements, too.
(2) If you want to actually operate the system directly from your Mac, you will need Mac compatible software that meets your monitoring needs.
A couple of examples are:

Search for other software solutions if one of these do not meet all your needs.
Once you decide what software you will use, select from cameras that are compatible with your software and meet the specific requirements of your planned installation.
