WD External Harddrive

:-(

The WD My Passport doesn't show after I accidentally pulled the cord without ejecting it properly.

Has anyone else had this problem and can the data on the HD be recovered...it has my daughters show on it! 😐

Many thanks for your help.

- Does it show in Disk Utility?

- Does it show in System Profiler under USB? You should see the chipset in the enclosure as well as the HD itself

If is shows in Disk Utility then first try repairing/First Aid via Disk Utility.

If still not accessible via Finder then

Try a disk recovery app:

you may be able to download a demo of Data Rescue 4, and the demo will give you an idea of what it can recover. If it looks promising, you then can buy the software.

First, does it not show even in Disk Utility? Disconnecting a drive like that can corrupt the file directory. If the drive will show in Disk Utility you can try repairing this directory using Disk Utility. A badly corrupted directory may require a stronger tool such as Diskwarrior which unfortunately does not have a trial mode so it is a gamble at $100.

If the drive is not showing in Disk Utility you may be looking at mechanical issues and then you will need to try a data recovery tool, though it is possible even one of those will not help.
