home button fell out now nothing works

So I have the iPhone 6 the screen has been cracked for about a year, because I drop it quit a bit. that said yesterday the home button finally fell out cause the ribbon cable holding it on broke(but it worked for about a week with the button just flopping around held on by the ribbon cable). this was not a problem at first, but out of nowhere it just stopped working, like nothing. I tried holding the lock button plunging it in to both my mac book pro and the wall but nothing happened. the screen just stayed black and my computer didn't ever recognize that I plugged my phone in. And then once again, out of nowhere it just turned on with out me touching it as if nothing had happened (also when it turned back on everything worked fine until it stopped again). This whole cycle has happened 3 times over a period of about 12 hrs now.

other info

  • not sure what operating system I'm running right now (could be anything from iOS 9.2.1 to 9.3.1) but if I had to guess I would say iOS 9.3 or 9.3.1
  • has been dropped fairly hard so idk if its possibly a battery or battery connection problem
  • the screen and home button definitely need to be replaced but idk about anything else

Sent back my IN WARRANTY IPHONE 6 for Simple HOME button replacement as the button was not working and this is all that was wrong with phone!

Repair center says there is a slight bend in phone and won't just fix the HOME BUTTON.

They quote over 300 eur for fixing!

Dis-graceful Service

300 sounds about right. Apple is not going to do a partial repair.

Are you ALL just Apple Employees replying to these??

So obvious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was so obvious that it was a reasonable amount, why are you whining about it?

And, no, this is a user-to-user technical support forum. There are very few Apple employees posting here. They are indicated by a black Apple avatar. And, they don't answer question like these. They only answer actual technical support questions that have gone unanswered for a day or so.

Was hardly saying 300 was reasonable! Its the stupidest thing i have heard today!!!( bar your last reply)!!!!!!!!!!

Was saying its obvious U HAVE A vested interest in Apple (most likely as an employee) Of Course you are going to say 300 sounds ok.

My point is I don't want the bend fixed! ( was never a problem before and hadn't even noticed it) (if i did i would have bent Straight before sending it in)

I want the home button fixed.

And don't quote something stupid again about Partial repair! One thing has nothing to do with the Other.

No, I do not work for Apple. Please stop inferring that I am lying.

You damaged your phone. Apple is willing to do an out-of-warranty replacement at significantly less than the retail cost of the phone. That's better than ok.

Had you purchased AppleCare+ for the device within the first 60 days after getting it, the repairs would have been a $80 USD service fee and would have covered any and all kinds of damage for two years. In view of the lack of precaution, would have been a significantly better investment than the now unavoidable 300€ out of warranty replacement cost.

And no, it is not just a simple button. It contains the TouchID sensor which is intimately married to the whole security infrastructure that keeps the contents of the phone safe from prying eyes (including those of the FBI). The repair can only be done by Apple and consists in replacing the now-dead unit.

Edit: as for how long, it is near instantaneous. As soon as you get to the store and plonk down the cash, they will take the cadaver and hand over a new/refurbished unit of identical characteristics. Migration of the contents is your purview. After all, you do have a backup, don't you?

Actually, they could have fixed the home button as a complete and total repair. Apple has insisted on doing multiple repairs.

Gee, Mr. Car Owner, we won't fix your flat tire for $25 unless you agree to pay us $2000 to repair your dented fender!
