Q: iPod touch not connecting to iTunes on pc

I cannot connect my iPod Touch 6th gen running iOS 9.3.1 to iTunes on my Windows 10 laptop, Windows 7 laptop or Windows 8.1 laptop. I am using the charging cable that came in the box. My computers all recognise it, giving me an Explorer window where i can see my photos however I do not get the icon in iTunes next to the music icon. This has been the same on all iOS versions since January (when I brought the iPod) and on my previous iPod (4th gen, iOS 6.1.6).

You need iTunes 12.3 for iOS 9.3
First:
iTunes: Fix iPhone or iPod Not Detected in Windows 10
next try
Apple Mobile Device USB Driver Missing
last
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later
- New cable and different USB port
