I don't have an apple tv but I wanted to stream Netflix from my phone to my television. Is this possible or do I need a device to do this? Is there an app that will do this for me?

You need an Apple TV to take advantage of AirPlay with your TV. There is a Netflix app for Apple TV 4 so you wouldn't need to tie up the phone.

To do this with you iPhone you need to purchase Apple's Lightning to digital AV adapter and a good quality HDMI cable if your TV has HDMI inputs.
