How do I stop spotlight from constant indexing, slowing my Mac Pro to a crawl for hours?

Try disabling for External Drives
Disable spotlight for External Drives
and then try reindexing

If you have a later OSX version yo can go to System Preferences>Spotlight and exclude files/folder/disks
system prefernces then spotlight then privacy. Drag your hard drive there to stop it.

My only external drive is my Time Machine Back-up! I am looking for how to fix a possible corrupt index.
I re-indexed everything many times which is no help.
