Q: Since upgrading to El Capitan can't share photos using email

Since I upgraded to El Capitan a year ago I have been unable to share iPhotos using email.  In Share the email option is checked but shaded not allowing any changes to the option.  Is there an upgrade or fix to this issue?

MacbookPro (13-inch, late 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

From the Mail menu bar, please select

Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ Default email reader: Mail

If you don't use Mail, you may be able to set the preference in the mail client you do use.

If Microsoft Outlook 2011 is installed and you don't want it to be the default mail reader, select

              Outlook ▹ Preferences... ▹ General

    Uncheck the box marked

Make Outlook the default application for e-mail, calendar, and contacts

Thank you for your response, Linc.  However, I don't have any of those options on my mail preferences.  I use Outlook and the only thing that comes up when I click on Preferences is Personal Settings under which General is located (along with accounts, notifications & sounds, categories, fonts and autocorrect).  When I click on General there is a folder list with two options: 1) group similar folders, such as inboxes from different accounts and 2) Hide on My Computer folder.  Other content in Preferences is as follows:  Email (reading, composing, signatures, rules, junk) and Other (calendar, contacts, security & privacy).

My options here are very limited.  See screenshots below.

Please launch Mail, set up an account (which could be iCloud Mail), make Mail the default reader temporarily, and test.

I have 3 separate accounts and I did set up the iCloud mail.  Still I cannot get the option to send pictures by mail.  I'm totally at a loss.  I even tried to reinstall the prior version of the OS system (Maverick) but the version was too old.  Not quite sure what to do next.

Please follow the instructions in this support article. Instead of typing the shell command directed in the article, I suggest that you copy and paste it from the web page into the Terminal window. Make sure you select the whole line. One way to do that is by triple-clicking anywhere in the line.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before proceeding. You may have to log out or restart to see a change.

No change! Think I will download and reinstall El Capitan and see what happens.  Will keep you posted.

Figured it out.  Photos will email with Mac Mail, but will not attach to Microsoft Outlook.  However, feature no longer exist that allows email sharing using different background options as in previous OS X versions (invitation, scrapbook, classic, etc.).  Perhaps there's a fix for that?
