Q: Cannot disable user as administrator

Hi Apple community,

I have the computer set up using a standard account, however this morning I logged in as admin and clicked the box for the standard account that allows the user to 'administer this computer'.  I needed to do this temporarily, or so I thought at the time, and planned to disable/ uncheck this box after I was finished.   However now, the 'allow user to administer this computer' is greyed out and despite my best efforts I cannot uncheck it.  Now I have an admin account and my normal user account with admin privileges which I do not want.  I thought if I logged in to the true Admin account I could resolve it, but to no avail.  Any help appreciated.

Log into the account that was Standard and is now Admin. Disable the Admin privilege and return the account to Standard.

    Hi theratter,

Maybe it was confusing in the original post, but this is exactly the problem.  Despite being logged into the standard account the option is greyed out.

I think you will need to create a new Standard account. Be sure to use the same username and password so you can easily transfer your data over before you delete this one. You will want to login to your normal Admin account to do this. I'm assuming your could not change this account back to Standard when logged into your usual Admin account?

In Terminal, I ran this from the standard account

sudo dseditgroup -o edit -d UserName -t user admin

then logged out and in again and it was set as normal

i logged into the account i still "wanted to be administrator" and the one i did "not want to be administrator". Then, i logged out of the the one i did "not want to be administrator" and went back to the one i still "wanted to be administrator" and at that point the allow user to be administrator option on the one i did "not want to be administrator" was not greyed out.
