Q: Problems upgrading Ram on 2010 iMac
I have a mid 2010 21.5 " iMac. It came with 2 2GB sticks of Hynix RAM. With the newer OSX it's gotten slower so I tried upgrading with an additional 2 2GB sticks of OWC RAM using the specs from the "About This Mac" tab. DDR3, PC3 10600, 1333 204 Pin. It ran fine for about 30 minutes and then crashed, restarted, crashed. If I remove the new ram and use only the factory ram it runs ok, slow but steady. On the advice of the local Apple Store I bought 2 8GB Crucial sticks of the same specs. Same problem. Local Apple Store Genuis bar was unable to offer any advice. Apple support Chat recommended resetting the SMC. Only after I got offline with them and read the SMC procedures did I realize I've been doing that all along. Right now my last resort is to buy the identical Hynix ram (HMT125S6TFR8C-H9-NoAA-C) but for some reason that costs three times what other 2GB ram costs and at this point not even sure that will work. Also noted when I check by application that ram does not come up for my computer. Any ideas would be appreciated, I'm getting tired of buying RAM I can't use.
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
