How to update from 5.1 to newer version

MY brother gave me his old iPad 5.1 version. Went to update it to download Facebook (says it needs 7.1 or newer) but no updates are available in settings.What's do I do?

Download the current version of it to a computer or newer iOS device, click here, and try following the instructions.

Does your iPad have cameras? If it doesn't, it's the first generation ipad and 5.1 is the latest you can install.
