Hello Deirdrej88,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are seeing boxes instead of text in an iBook on your iOS device. To get started I suggest that you remove the iBook download, and then download it again from your purchases:

Delete books and audiobooks

Remove books or audiobooks from the iBooks app using the steps below:

  1. In the upper-right corner, tap Select.
  2. Tap the books you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete.
  4. Tap Delete This Copy.

Delete music, movies, apps, and other content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

edownload a book

You can redownload books in iBooks on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac (using OS X Mavericks or later), or in iTunes on a PC.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the iBooks app.
If you're using iBooks 3.2 or earlier, tap Store.
  2. Tap Purchased from the bottom navigation bar.
    User uploaded file
  3. Tap the Download icon User uploaded file next to the book that you want to download. The book downloads to your device.

Download your past purchases

Take care.
