My Macbook pro early 2015 screen went completely black I took it to the IT place on campus and they're telling me I need a new screen I hooked it up to an external monitor and it pops up on there and I already tried resetting the SCM but nothing?

Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), Processor 2.7GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3, Version 10.10.5. My Macbook Pro screen went completely black I took it to the IT place on campus and they said I need to get a new screen but they didn't really look at it, this is going to cost me a lot of money that I don't have and my screen isn't even cracked. I've hooked it up to an external monitor and it pops up on there and everything else works perfectly. I already tried resetting the SCM and PRAM and nothing happened. Could something else be wrong with it that would be a much cheaper fix?

See if booting up from Yosemite or El Capitan on an external device can access the screen. Then check the Apple coverage. Then — if "the IT place on campus" isn't a campus Apple store — check with the local Apple store, as they'll have a look at a system and variously run some diagnostics for you, and usually at no charge, and they can give you a price for repairs of there's no coverage.
