Q: iPad "No service" after restart with 9.3.1

I updated my iPad  2 3G model MC982GP/A with 9.3.1 but after restore/update, if I restart the iPad, and if "sim pin" is disable, the iPad only shows "No Service" with the wifi bars. I have to take off the sim card and put it back in again for 3G to work.

If "sim pin" is on, asking for the pin everything works ok. Is I disable the "sim pin" option the problem comes back again.

Even working with MDM, the problem persists.

Anyone has a solution? Is this a bug?

    HNowdy moodnut,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, there's an issue connecting to a cellular data network with your iPad since updating to the latest version of iOS. Try taking a look at the article below and running through the general troubleshooting tips that it provides.

If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data - Apple Support

    Cheers.

Sorry but you did not understand correctly.

"if I restart the iPad, and if "sim pin" is disable, the iPad only shows "No Service" with the wifi bars. I have to take off the sim card and put it back in again for 3G to work."

    Regards

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Due to the nature of the cellular service issue, you may find more information by using another one of these Apple support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

This seems to be a common problem with iOS 9.3.x

easiest  work around.  Turn off cellular data.  Power off.  Power on....turn on  the cellular data.

or remove sim...power off...power on ....insert sim

both of these are work arounds. As soon as you power off again problem resurfaces.  just repeat the above.

Mikec1951, even easier is just to pull out the sim card and put it back in. The iPad automatically detects the network.

My problem is that I am working with MDM solutions, to manage distant iPads. So imagine this: each time an iPad looses battery and restarts I have to go to the iPad and use one of the available work arounds... This problem is a nightmare to me.

Apple is already aware of this and the problem is/was already reported to their engineers.

But thank you for the information.
