Q: Ipod 'repeat artist' function

Hi,

I need to set my ipod touch to repeat albums by artist.

Basically, so when an album has finished, it cues up another album by that same artist and plays is through, and so on. This used to work on older versions, but I can't seem to find the option on my ipod now.

It's annoying because every time i play an album in the car, after it's finished, the ipod immediately starts playing the first alphabetical song on the device, every single time...so not only do i not want that, I'm getting rather annoyed of hearing the first few bars of that song every time an album ends. It'd be much better (like before) to simply have another album by that artist to start playing If i so choose.  Any ideas?

iPod touch, iOS 9.3.1

    Howdy cobblerguitar,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see you'd like to repeat an artist whenever its last song on a final album is played.  This is definitely an option for you to do.  After tapping on the artist's icon to start playing their discography, simply open up the mini player and tap on the repeat button.

Or you can tap or swipe up on the Miniplayer to see the Now Playing screen and controls. Tap the   in the upper-left corner or swipe down to close the Now Playing screen.

If you want to listen to an artist's entire collection of music that you've saved to your library, find the artist in My Music. To the right of the artist's name, tap  , then tap Add to Up Next.

Tap   at the bottom of the Now Playing screen to shuffle the songs in a playlist or album. You can also ask Siri to shuffle your music.

Use Apple Music in the Music app

    Cheers.

Hi, Thank you for helping me,

I will give this a try. So if I do this (tap the repeat button) it will always play another album from an artist after the current one is finished? Do I have to do this for every artist on the ipod after that, or does this function globally? I don't mind which album from that artist gets cued up, as long as it's not the one that's just finished.

    Cheers,

    Hey there cobbler cobblerguitar,

Yes, it should remain once you begin playing another artist.

    Have a good one.

    Hi,

i tried it as you described above, opened up the mini player, then tapped on the repeat icon. But it doesn't work. All that happens is, the same album repeats from the beginning. What I want is for it to cue up another album by that artist. What is it that I'm doing wrong?

Just to be clear, the process should be tapping on the artist's icon in the artist view, and then making sure repeat is on.  This will make sure when an album is done, it will go on to the next one, and then loop back to the beginning after the last song in the last album is played.

If this is not working for you, then you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources -

    Take care.

    Hi again,

Yes, that's what I did. I selected the artist icon which brings up their discography. Then I tapped the mini player and tapped on the repeat button, which then gets a grey box around it. This function only serves to repeat the selected album from the beginning ad-infinitum though. I don't see an option to 'repeat artist' anywhere.
