Q: Notes App as (very) slow behavior

Hi,

To take advantage of the new functionalities of the Notes App, I migrated my Evernote notes to the OS X native app. I have roughly 1200 notes with all kinds of information and attachments.

After this procedure, I notice a big decrease in speed and, thus, functionality. This behavior also is noticed on iOS turning almost impossible, to take written notes on an iPad, for instance. This happens on all my devices (MacBook Pro [Retina Mid 2012; 2,3 GHz Intel Core i7; 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3], iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2)

Anyone has noticed this and have a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I moved about 1,200 notes from iCloud over to "On My Mac", leaving less than 200 Notes on iCloud (400 MB) to test the behaviour.

Performance is still slow and unstable on all devices. Very disappointing. I submitted another feedback request to Apple with my findings. I find other features of iCloud work very well, but Notes has been a total and utter failure by Apple when used with iCloud. Hoping a fix will be implemented or already included in MacOS/IOS10...

I have like 4000 notes imported from Evernote.

    Bottom line = Lag:

    - Slow, spinning wheels, etc.

    - really frustrating if I want to just draft a quick note. The screen display lags behind my typing.

It seems to be an iCloud integration problem because when I turn off iCloud it seems to fix the problem.

I want to dump Evernote Pro/Premium, but cannot for two reasons.

    1) I cannot publish a note to a public link.

    2) The Notes lag issue.

    Hopefully they will fix this.

OK so what I ended up doing was moving a large number of Notes (recipes) to a recipe management software. Then I moved another large number of Notes that are more reference-style material to my local iMac taking them out of iCloud.

That left me with 170 Notes that I access frequently, but I found that the slowness continued. Checking iCloud usage, the space used by Notes dropped from 1.1GB down to 500MB. There was no reason for the continued 500MB iCloud storage usage for such a small number of notes - seemed like a lot of garbage left behind in iCloud. The following final steps sped up Notes removing the laggy behaviour with iCloud - should keep me going until a fix is implemented:

    1. Moved remaining 170 Notes in iCloud to a temporary Notes folder on my iMac.

    2. Ensured that Notes were synced and cleared out on all my other devices.

    3. Went to iCloud storage managemet and deleted all Notes data.

    4. Let things sit as is. I left it alone until next morning. Probably only need a few minutes of waiting.

    5. Copied the 170 Notes back to iCloud.

    6. Allowed other devices to sync (this took a long time - some devices took 30 min before the sync process would start)

    7. Went back to iCloud storage and Notes was then only using 65MB.
