i have an iMac with a second thunderbolt monitor. will I be able to connect a MacBook Pro to that same thunderbolt monitor without having to disconnect from the iMac? Both computers WILL NOT be used at the same time.

Yes. Use a Thunderbolt cable to connect the second computer to the Thunderbolt port on the back of the display.
Thanks. Since I already use the thunderbolt connector for my iMac, I assume I then can use the mag connector for the macbook? The Thunderbolt display comes with a mutual-connecotr cable.
You can connect the display's Thunderbolt and MagSafe cables to the MacBook Pro. If the MacBook Pro is new you may need an adapter:

You will have to buy a Thunderbolt cable to connect the iMac to the back of the display.
