Apple will "repair" a 4th gen shuffle. For a shuffle, they provide you with a replacement for a fee. According to this document, the "out-of-warranty" fee is $39

NOTE: A brand new 4th gen shuffle with headphones, docking cable, and one-year warranty is $49 retail.
Also, if your shuffle happens to be less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.
