In Safari I have a Bookmarks and Reading list in a pane down the left side of the screen. How can get rid of and then recall this?

Click the Show/Hide Sidebar button.

And if that icon isn’t there you can find the Hide/Show Sidebar toggle under the View menu. There’s also a keyboard shortcut that is very easy to remember <sarcasm> shift command L -

I think of it as Look but tend to use the menu option since I often forget it.
