I am using iphoto 09 and have ordered photo books and card several times in past. Has probably been a couple years since I last ordered something. I have created a Grad Invite for my son. When I click the Buy Now icon, I get an error message. "A connection could not be established at this time. Please ensure your network connection is active and try again".

I have tried DNS fixes, resetting preference files and tried creating a new account. None of these work. Any thoughts? Thanks

It is no longer possible to buy photo books from iPhoto. Apple stopped the development of iPhoto, is no longer selling it, and at the end of March Apple also stopped the print services for iPhoto and Aperture. You can now only order Apple photo books from the new Photos for Mac application.

However, Presto Photo will print your iPhoto books, if you submit the PDF file to Presto Photo.

That service is no longer available - only the new Photos application can order print products now

PrestoPhotoclaims to be able to print from iPhoto - so far no one has really posted their experience but I assume that since no one has made negative comments that they are happy with the results - I have not personally used them - a few people has said they are going to oder and post their results but no one has yet

It will depend on the theme you are using and if you have been using features that are not available in Photos for Mac.

See this link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204478

Some photo books and calendars, made with themes that Photos no longer supports, migrate to Albums.

Before you migrate to Photos save the preview of your book as a PDF file. PrestoPhotos can print your book as it is. See the links in this user tip - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-9861

See the link below on how to save the PDF file for printing with PrestoPhoto posted by PrestoMeghan:

Re: Re: how to export a book made in Aperture to make a similar book in Photos?

For the paper qualities see: FYI on Books with Lustre Paper!

In this discussion are also reports by kgem and Astro7x about the first experiences with this service.

do I upgrade to Photo for Mac & if so, will my photo book be saved to the new program?

I would not do so. If the book is important I would complete it in iPhoto, create a PDF file as described in this Apple document, Preview a print project in Photos or iPhoto to avoid issues - Apple Support, and try PrestoPhotos as has been suggested by léonie and Larry. The themes for Photos just are not enough like iPhoto to take the chance if it's important.

As stated at the end of the user tip that léonie linked to there have been good reviews of the PrestoPhoto books.
