Q: Cannot send email on iphone

Yesterday after attempting to send an email on my iphone I got a message:  "Cannot send mail  The user name or password for SMTP:***********@smtp.me.com is incorrect"

I have had no issues previously.  My software is all up to date.  No changes were made in my username or password.  I followed the Apple support suggestions related to this but they did not resolve the issue.  I have continued to be able to receive email.

Any idea what might have caused this, and more importantly, how can I fix it?

Thanks.

You followed the apple support suggestions, by going to your email settings and making sure your outgoing server is set with correct username and password?  You deleted and reinstalled the email account?  You contacted your email provider to see what the issue is and resolution?

Try resetting your Mail Account. First close your Mail App completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Mail preview pane up until it disappears from the screen. You may have to look for the Mail pane by scrawling to the left. Then go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > locate your email provider and click on the account. On the next page Delete Account. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Then go back to Settings > Mail… and add the account again.

This is an icloud account.  There is no option to delete it on the screen.  Should I "sign out?"  Will that then allow me to delete it?  and will it pick everything back up when I go back and try adding the account again?  Thanks.

Try following my earlier post (in the order I listed) but instead of deleting just sign out. And yes, it should pick up everything.

No luck, same result.  I looked at the SMTP settings for the icloud server and see the below info.  I would have thought the username and password would have been filled in when I added the account back.  Its also not letting me manually enter the info.

From the followint link:  Get help using iCloud Mail - Apple Support

If you can receive messages but can't send them

Your Internet service provider might be blocking the protocol used to send email (SMTP) across their network. Contact your service provider and ask about SMTP traffic that crosses their network to an external service, such as iCloud. If your service provider blocks SMTP traffic, ask them how you can be exempted from SMTP blocking.

If your service provider isn't blocking SMTP traffic and you still can't send messages, contact iCloud Support for help.

May have to contact iCloud Support....
