Q: How can I remove what I believe it is a malware named "adf.ly" ?

Hi guys. I hope somebody can help me.

Both of my browsers, Safari (main) and Firefox are working very bad and everytime I try tô open what used tô be my “homepage” (www.uol.com.br), a strange page opens instead (in both browsers) with the address “*****://adf.ly/noscript.php?t=js” . I have looked all around the internet tô learn how tô get rid of it which is making me crazy. I believe it is a malware. Please some help.

Thanks in advance .

PS: Guys, I have just found that Safari it is not working well. I was in this community writing this post and the text was being inserted in white color and I could only see it if I selecte it in the box, than I came to Firefox to do this post.

    Malwarebytes DETECTED NOTHING

DetectX 2.11 on first search DETECTED NOTHING - Fixing on Soft Reset - NOTHING SOLVED - Fixing on Hard Reset - NOTHING SOLVED AND A LIFE OF BOOKMARKS DESAPERED !

    I stoped here.

THERATTER, your answer : "Ever heard of a Google search?" is not what I was looking for coming here in this forum. I feel sorry if you think that way. Apple has made the best computers I have ever worked with since 1995. Why should I first search on Google if there are Apple / Mac Discussion Forums. If you are not willing to help Mac users that come here you should not even answer anybody and let those who want to help do the job. Anyway, thanks for your lost time typing those few words.

    Have a nice day.

PS: I could retrieve the bookmarks using the "restore" possibility on iCloud.

I tried to help you, but you said nothing worked. When that happens one does a Google Search. Hence, the suggestion. Don't like it, then don't do it. If you want to solve your problem that's what I suggest you do. I guess if the help I provided did not help you, then you consider that you got no help at all. So far I haven't seen anyone jump on your bandwagon. As of now, I'm jumping off of it.

Once more, thanks for you time.

I was just trying tô say that the steps you suggested did not worked and I was waiting for any other suggestion, from you or anybody else.

Maybe something reset your homepage in your browser profiles?  Adf.ly is a somewhat sleazy advertising web site.  I don't use Safari but I seem to remember holding down the shift key while starting Safari enters a safe mode and perhaps you can reset your homepage there.  I am not sure if Firefox has the same but the menu on the far right lets you restart in a safe mode, if you can get past the ad web site.

    Quit SAfari.

Restart SAfari holding down the Shift Key.

    Any better?

Thanks Limnos and ~Bee for your posts.

Before I had read your posts I decided tô do a thing that had once read in an old post around here. I reseted my internet rooter. As soon as it changed the settings and came out with factory configurations with different name, the odd thing / strange page stopped showing up.

Have you ever heard about a virus or something similar stored in the rooter ?

I don't know if the problem disappeared for good. I hope so. Any change I will let you know. thanks guys.
