Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

I had the same random reboots with my 256gb, cellular, silver model. I updated to 9.3.2 on Mon., 5/17/16 over the air, luckily with no problems. No crashes since then. Hopefully this issue gets resolved quickly.

This may be unrelated but my old (low screen resolution) Windows laptop has the same problem. It happens when I run graphics rich app or games. The device driver is not compatible with the screen and quite often the screen blanks out, and after 10 seconds comes back to normal. I get a message that says, "The device driver stopped working and is now functioning normally"

LIke I said in a previous post, my iPad Pro 9.7 32GB wifi has not crashed in the last couple of weeks. This is very baffling because some of you are having frequent crashes.

Those of you experiencing frequent crashes, Try changing your safari settings and see if it makes a difference.

Did the 9.3.2 update, and luckily my iPad Pro 9.7 Space Gray 128 WiFi did not brick.

Random reboots occurred twice after the newest update though. Every time when I was using Safari.

So, all hope on the new update passed... If you don't have to update for another reason, then DON'T do it before Apple makes a statement about the new bricking feature.

Well, I've only crashed only once in two days!  I'm ether lucky or the upgrade helped a little bit.  I have had a screen freeze a couple times but those sceen's have come back to life fortunately before I do a reboot.    So, let's hope the next upgrade corrects all!

Just got my 4th IP Pro 9.7 32g wi-fi since the update to 9,3.2 played havoc with Safari.  Set it up at the store, but downloaded apps at home.  A few hours after finishing it springboarded and also Safari froze. Apple has not acknowledged the problems and many of their employees act clueless. This iPad is running 9.3.1 and it was suggested at the store that I don't update till there is a fix.  At this point I don't know how long this will take.  There are updates waiting on my IMac and I am afraid to download them.

Hello everyone. As mentioned some days ago I installed a free app called iRefresh Pro: RAM, CPU Usage Real-time & System Information for purging memory once a day. 6 days are passed (and two iOS version) and I haven't had any respring, reboot or else.

So here is the FIRST WORKING [and temporary I hope] SOLUTION:

    - install iRefresh Pro: RAM, CPU Usage Real-time & System Information

    - set the app to execute memory purge at launch

    - launch app once per day

That's all, hopefully waiting for Apple patch.

I was skeptical but desperate...I tried what IPK stated (iRefresh Pro). I close all apps and run iRefresh Pro twice per day (Morning/Evening) and I haven't had an issue in a couple of days. I'll keep doing this and report back like IPK is doing. Hopefully Apple is paying attention and working on this. This is easily the most obnoxious issue I've ever had with Apple, especially right out of the box. You shouldn't have to close apps and run some memory refresh app to make this $1000 PRO device work.

I'm just going to stop trying to find ways to fix this and hope Apple does something. My iPad crashed again even using the irefresh twice per day. If this isn't fixed by next update, I'll be selling this crappy iPad Pro 9.7, it's not worth the headache or the $1000.

i Am on my 4th I pad and this one is no better, maybe worse.  The update did not brick the last one, but played havoc with Safari.  I like the size of this one and don't want one that runs Microsoft.  I am in a quandary as to what to do.

I tried the IPad Refresh app and it still crashes at least once a day. I updated to 9.3.2. Thank God it didn't brick. Apple are you listening? This is unacceptable for a $1,000 product. Does anybody know any good lawyer?

Has anyone actually ever completely read the End User License Agreements that you have to agree with before using this iPad? I doubt a class action suite will  help us much...

It will be hard to prove material damage from the restarts, I think the most data I lost was a post in a forum that I had not saved and I switched apps and it restarted.  A few seconds or maybe a minute of down time will be really hard to prove to a judge that you have been harmed by this software defect.  Should it be there?  No.  Should Apple be more responsive and acknowledge it and patch it?  Yep.  Will you be able to sue Apple over a software defect?  Not a chance.  They indeminify themselves in the EULA and frankly other than being inconvienced for a short period maybe once or twice a day (mine has not crashed since the update, but I concider that to be coincidental) you can't prove any actual damage to sue them over.

We have 2 128 GB wifi only Ipad Pro 9.7 we had delivered on launch day.  They both do random restarts occasionally when closing Safari or switching to mail from Safari.  I have exchanged one of them for a refurb and it does the same. I notified Apple that my "new" refurb has the same issue.  Just waiting to see if there is a software solution before we do any more exchanges.
