Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

I have had no reboots for 3 days now.

Go to settings, restrictions and switch off Safari.

Then install Chrome and use it.

If it works for me, should work for others.

I did not turn off Safari.  I was having problems with Safari so I went and removed History and Data.  Have not had a restart since Monday night.  Lets see how long this lasts.

I just spoke to someone who has an iPad Air 2 and is having the same problem.  It must be software.  I could not speak to her long, but will do so.  When I have more information will post again.

Well, that would explain why it hasn't been fixed, as next week iOS 10 will be unveiled and I am sure the team working on getting that ready to show is working around the clock, sleeping under desks, not keeping up with personal hygiene, etc.

They need to find the problem if it is software so it doesn't carry over to IOS 10

iOS 10 is going to be an independent branch that has been worked on for quite some time already, and since the WebKit is integral to the OS, they aren't simply going to drop it in from its current state in 9.3.2.  If you remember, they completely redid the iOS system when they came out with iOS 8, iOS 9 improved upon iOS 8.  It could be that iOS 10 is going to be another overhaul to emphasize security from hackers throughout the OS.  If this is the case it is all hands on deck right now to work on iOS 10 to get it out on time, for those who would want/need to keep iOS 9, they will release a patch after the Keynote next week when they have some time to figure out the issue.

The iOS team has had quite the load thrown at it with the unintentional bricking that had to be fixed urgently, I am sure they have been doing serious overtime for the launch next week.  The unflattering PR about Apple has not helped either, just causing more stress on the already stressed out programmers.  You can only code so many lines per day, and I feel for them.

Then they shouldn't release a brand new ipad Pro that is buggy and restarts all the time. They should have waited to release it with ios 10.

I switched Safari back on and crashes started again. So need to remove it again.

You can imagine how many upset iPad Pro owners their must be.

Someone needs to say something at the Apple WWDC 2016 about the iPad Pro problem. If iOS 10 does not fix it, people will be demanding refunds.

I have to keep Safari off just to use the device.

I Have been reading on line about the conference and the random restart problem is not mentioned.  The only software mentioned is IOS 10 which will be released in the fall. Nothing is said about restarts.  I have been reading posts on the web and found that this problem with the iPad goes back to 2013 at least.  Some had the readom restart with the IOS 8 update.  I don't think this problem is going to be fixed anytime soon.

I have had this issue as well...128 cellular model.  Mostly used with the keyboard.  Cannot isolate it to one particular app

FWIW, I have both iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9. Random restart happened in both iPads, regardless of the apps I use. I have tried resetting to factory state. I have upgraded to latest iOS as of today. Nothing fix it.

Interestingly, ZERO reboots on my iPad Air 1. Seems to affect the iPad Pro models.
