Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

    Hello,

So something interesting happened this weekend. I was setting up my daughter's brand new ipad mini 2 and experienced 2 crashes. The first one was a "soft" crash that lasted only a few seconds with the apple logo screen showing. The second was a "hard" crash where I had to push the home button and off button simultaneously to exit from the crash. Her ipad  is 32gb white running 9.3.2. Anyone had this happen with a brand new ipad mini? Could this be the same issue as what is going on with the ipad pro 9.7?

Very well could be.  I was hoping that iOS 9.3.3 would fix it but I just got a crash..

    OH well....

My friend has a IPad Air 2 and when she updated to 9.3.2 started having random restarts.  I just lookEd at IPad randomly **** off on line and in the Apple Community and see that this has been a problem since 2010.  It is not only IPads, but IPhones too.  Did Apple and will Apple fix the problem?

What if it is malware or spyware that is tripping iOS. We all think of iOS as impenetrable, but what if some websites have code to break into iOS except that they can't but end up tripping iOS. Just a thought...

Why are some people experiencing more crashes than others? What are your setting for cookies? Are there specific websites that causes the crash?

I have somewhat of an OCD where I close the tab when I'm done with it and before I swipe up (kill) the Safari app. I also avoid spurious websites.

    My SafarI settings:

    Do not track: On

    Fraudulent Website Warning: On

Block Cookies: Allow from websites I visit

    Block Popups: On

    I'm on iOS 9.3.3

I have the same settings you do for Safari.  This is my 4th IPad and the restarts are much less frequent then the others. The big question everyone is asking is why is it different for different people. Why does it seem to be such a problem for these IPads? Neither I or my husband have had this problem before.

I Never has this problem until I got the iPad Pro 9.7. I also have the same settings and the latest 9.3.3 and it still restarts. It's been doing this since straight out of the box without restoring, meaning right out of the box with the default install. I didn't even install one app and it did this restart as soon as I took this POS out of the box.

OMG! I just bought an iPad Pro because my iPad 2 crashes all the time, ALL the time. It flips me back to home page more often than not. i can't seem to stay on a page without the page having to constantly reload. Now I'm petrified that  I have spent so much money just to go through the same thing on my new one. ARGH!

Last night for the first time since updating my iPad Pro 9.7 to iOS 9.3.2 (in week of release of the fixed version of the operating system) through iTunes, I was using Safari and went back to the Home screen using the Home button - it crashed and rebooted just as it did with the previous iOS 9.3.1.  It produced an error log, which I will submit to Apple.

I am planning to upgrade to iOS 9.3.3 using iTunes at the time it next needs charging.  Is the issue still apparent in iOS 9.3.3?

Do you remember what you did that caused the crash? Did you open Safari? If so, which websites did you visit?

Those of you experiencing frequent crashes, have you sync'd your iPad with your PC? You don't need to.

    I was in Safari with two tabs open;

As I said I pressed the Home button and it rebooted.

I know that the iPad automatically uploads the crash logs to Apple, every 7 days.  However you can't create a Bug Report with Apple unless you sync the iDevice with iTunes on my Mac and then pull the log out of the file system.

I have been using Macs and iDevices for 10 years...  So I know what I'm doing.

The question that I am asking is - Is this issue still there in iOS 9.3.3?

As I said above, I will be upgrading the next time that I connect the iPad to my Mac...  I never install updates over the air...

The issue is still in 9.3.3. I'd say something about testing this but apple removes the comments. It's still not fixed!

Thank you for letting me know.

I guess that I'll be creating a Bug Report for the issue in iOS 9.3.3 then.

I have been experiencing the same as many other iPad Pro 9.7 users...random restarts.  I do notice a restart sometimes when backing out of Safari, but that isn't the only restart I have experienced.  There have been apps running and in the middle of running one, it just shuts down and restarts.  Mine is a 256 gb with cellular.  Apple has replaced it twice and it still happens...I haven't complained any longer because it seems this is something they cannot fix.  I thought it might be some of my information but I now see so many others with exactly the same issue.

I only seem to experience the restarts when using Safari...  I've had my iPad Pro 7.9 about 10 weeks now, its happened a couple of times.

The best bet is to extract the crash log and create a Bug Report for every instance that occurs...  That way the issue will be investigated...
