Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

It is not only the restarts that are getting to me it is also problems updating apps.  Monday Zillow had an update and I had to fool around to get it updated.  Finally it updated I knew since the picture on the home page changed.  This iPad did not recognize the update.  I tried to shut it down and not do it.   It was, still telling me I had an update pending. A soft reset did not do it.  I deleted it twice and opened it from the app store and the iPad finally recognized it.  I have had problems updating before but not this bad .  This one was with 9.3.3.  Also, ITunes comes and goes.  There seems to be multiple problems with these IPads and it is time Apple did something To fix this.  I am loosing patience.

    Turn off auto update.

Early this am, MC5 completely downloaded and installed a new version. Usually when this happens it requires the six digit lock code. No fingerprint.

I have auto update on. So, Apple may have addressed this issue already. They will get to it when they get to it, meanwhile, enjoy the product. I don't care for their politics or business models and customer tactics. Their engineers and customer reps are way on the high side.

Also keep in mind it may be app specific.

Apple took control from them of issuing refunds. It now lets them concentrate on helping rather than decision making over refunds which could turn and bite them. Double edge.

As for me, eight plus iPads later, I haven't ever lost anything prior to the previous 15 years of blue screens. The only data loss came from my fiddling.

I fretted about this too. Up until I saw pending. I don't think the capacity of the world's computing power could update all devices at the same time.

I broke my rule. I started fiddling. Then stopped. It will updates when it updates.

MY 128GB iPad with cellular does this too.  It does a short restart, showing a black screen with a white Apple logo, and requires no login.  It does this after closing multiple apps.

Hi do you have any ideas to fix this? I just bought mine an iPad Pro 9.7 128GB Wifi + Cell Rose Gold on Australia on 22 July and on the first day it came out of the box the battery is 31% and I immediately charge it until 100% the iPad battery is horrible it cannot withstand to 10 hours of usage battery dropping 1% after 14 minutes usage only browsing the safari but after resetting all settings the battery become great just like it has to. But the main problem is it already random restart for 4 times after a week of usage and It drives me insane as this product is from Australia and I lived in Indonesia is there a way I can return this product in Singapore as they said it is international warranty? Thank you so much for people who can replied to my question

I Don't understand how such a major issue is being ignored by Apple. Does Apple read these boards?

The good people of China have provided me with eight to nine flawless ipad's which are as perfect as humanly possible. I check the finish and glass before anything else. Never have I found a flaw. I do not agree with the politics, the leaders, the b religion or the poor treatment it's people, however, my products have been perfect every time.

I learned in every industry the employees who take the hits are customer service. They only have so much to work with and are severely limited in what they speak. With 9.0's iCloud flaw, I should have not fiddled, I lost my data, no one else. I woke up this morning to a hard unlock. I feel this is for a reason. I also know that no one person has the whole picture. iOS software is compartmentalize as much, maybe more as our first fighter jet before the B-1 bomber. The fighter jet looks the way it does because at the time there was not enough computing power on earth available to figure out the smooth surface of the bomber's curves and remain stealthy. I know Apple has reasons. I have not idea why there are so many redundant, to me, areas to fiddle with to mess it up. I look at the code. I've heard in many circumstances, if one line is changed, it can affect the whole product. So, as in the fighter jet, it was in many different area's of our country and one time only did all those pieces come to my town to be assembled to make sure the pilot trainer would work. I never had the reboot before 9.0 that I can remember. I also can never remember a time it lost data and shut down during a game or a document being written. If you've jail broken your device in any manner, no sympathy. Get an android. If not, near with it. What possible purpose would it serve Apple for not working the problem. There software can never be brought together in the same place at the same time. It would be foolhardy, incompetent and irresponsible. I don't agree with Apple politics or policies but there is not a machine that is built so perfectly and ahead of time to last over a year without a new model coming out every three months. That is stability. Bear in mind while nf wants to own the video industry, Apple owns the music business. First, it was the time it took for finger recognition. It's amazing to me, it can read a print at all much more at any angle, any degree and at any place in 360 degrees. That seemed to go away. Now, this. If you use that jailbait software those people have your device and machine number, your fault. Think of what you are doing. To cheat at a game, you jeopardize every device and all of us who own one. Have you ever thought, because of you, people who refuse to jack their machines have to suffer because your fiddling has put us in a hackable position. That the attacks have to be dealt with using a fail safe. So, thank you. It does not bother me that apple protects me. Even though, every month, I get a new jack notice from a major company I buy from telling me that hackers have all my ID. So much so, that one or all of them are pogging in buying me a full boat id service which watches all my transactions. Expensive for even one month, now permanent. Apple will properly do a fix and release it when it is safe to do so. Not until then. Again, not a fan boy. I've just been happy with my Pro 9.7 as I have with the 8 or 9 I have gifted or gotten 200$ for every year as a trade in. Don't fiddle, don't fret. Only show your other side when it is absolutely necessary and there is undeniable proof in hand. My 20 cent.

I think he mistook this thread as iPad Pro 9.7 Random Text, because I couldn't understand nearly anything he wrote.

As for me, I'll keep swapping it out until I get one that doesn't reboot. I emailed and tweeted to Tim Cook on a whim, since Steve Jobs sent someone to get back to me on a previous issue, but so far, no response to this one.

IF it is two days old I would return it for a new one. If you don't want to do that back it up and completely wipe and restore it via iTunes of settings, general, reset

iOS 10 has mostly eliminated random restarts. Don't recommend the public beta for most users though each release is improving. Don't know how many public beta releases there will be but there was a huge jump from the first to second, both quashing bugs and optimizing performance. Restarts aren't a hardware issue.

Why doesn't Apple acknowledge the restarts?
