Q: Network Problem El Capitan

I have an macbook pro and after an update the network isn't working.

After a lot of searching on the web I found out that it was Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data: ver. 3.28.1 that caused the problem but I have tried everything that support suggests and reinstalled El Capitan but problem remains.

As you can see I have the following

Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data:

  Version: 3.30.1

  Kilde: Apple

  Installeringsdato: 11/04/2016 11.11

If I start in secure mode WiFi/Ethernet works - and then when i restart the Mac it works to - but is there anything I can do, so that WiFi/Ethernet work without the secure mode boot first.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Updating the OS to 10.11.4 should fix it.

There is also a little command that you can run in the Terminal to update just the problematic kernel extension - see here:

I have updated to 10.11.4 and I have run the kernel update but it hasn't fixed the problem.

After rereading your post I see that this should not be the same problem - the problematic version was 3.28.1, and you already have 3.30.1. FWIW I have the same version and have no problem connecting using Ethernet (via the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, as my mac is a rMBP).

What do you mean "Secure" mode?  Are you talking about "Safe" mode, where you hold the "Shift" key during boot?

If that is the case, then I would wonder if you have any 3rd party kernel extensions, 3rd party launch daemons or 3rd party launch agents that are interfering, such as anti-virus or even LittleSnitch kind of additions?

Can you created another user and check.

If the problem  is already here, go to Your hard drive/ Library/Preferences

Move com.apple.networkextension.plist  and all "network files" on your desktop and restart your Mac

    Hi Bob

Yes I do mean Safe Mode.... Is there any way to check if any 3rd party kernel extensions is causing the problem.

I wonder why this suddenly has occured after a update of El Capitan, cause I havve a virusprogram installed and it has never caused any problems.

I have also tried Richi69210s solution by creating a new user - and deleted all the network files - but same problem.

Anti-virus, Mac cleaners, and memory cleaners are typically not recommended by many of the forum contributes, as they often cause more problems then they have ever solved on OS X.  Please read:

How does Mac OS X protect me?

I wonder why this suddenly has occured after a update of El Capitan, cause I havve a virusprogram installed and it has never caused any problems.

Anti-virus apps get so intimate with OS X, using undocumented interfaces, or just reaching into kernel structures without any protection, that any change in the operating system can cause the anti-virus app to start misbehaving, or start to become destructive.

Is there any way to check if any 3rd party kernel extensions is causing the problem.

EtreCheck will list all the 3rd party additions.  You can post the output as a reply and someone will give you their 2 cent opinion on it (I will warn you the first thing will be to uninstall the anti-virus ).

CleanMyMac is likely a problem. Never use these "cleaners", antivirus and stuff - cause all sorts of trouble.

Yes proberly, but I have uninstalled it - and I wonder why that file is still there....

I thought the problem was caused by an update last saturrday - but now I wonder if the update has caused an 3rd party software or other to be a problem.

So many of the issues people have had with El Capitan have been associated with this and other "cleaners". Uninstalling may not be enough, because these programs may have already done damage by modifying your system.

        [running]    com.hanynet.icefloor.plist (2016-01-15) [Support]

Appears to be a Firewall, which is the kind of software that can block network access.  NOTE: I do not know anything about this product, so I could be wrong about what it does.  I used Google, and then make gross assumptions from there.

        [not loaded]    com.lsreset.plist (2015-01-20) [Support]

        [loaded]    com.lsreset

Claims to intercept network connections.  It is from LittleSnitch.  This is yet another candidate that could be interfering.

Side comment.  You may want to do some house cleaning on all the 3rd party additions you have installed, as they do take CPU, Memory, and other resources when they are loaded and running all the time.  Maybe there are things you no longer use.

Also Chrome can be a resource hog, and your system is swapping to disk with all the memory your combined apps and 3rd party additions are using.  You might look at keeping fewer Chrome tabs open, or looking for a more resource conservative browser.

You can check to see if you've removed all of the files by downloading and running Find Any File to search for any files with the application's name  and the developer's name in the file name.  For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:

    1 - Name contains cleanmymac

    2 - Name contains macpaw

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

Although many not be associated with the network issue Google is a resource and memory hog, less secure and phones home too much with users info.  I'd try getting rid of it for a awhile, use Firefox is you don't want to use Safari, and see if there's any improvement with performance.

    Hi all

After a lot of searching using all your help it seems like I have solved the problem by removing all the icefloor, little snitch and other 3rd party software it seems like the problem is solved....

Now my Network connections work like a charm.

    Thanks for all the help.
