Q: Dual/Tri Monitor Setup - Distorted Display

I'm running Windows 8.1 on an Early 2015 MBPr13 - 2.7GHz/16GB RAM /256 GB

When I plug in two monitors using the Thunderbolt 2 Ports via MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cables, the image they display become distorted / checked / repeated. (see image below - apologies for the flash)

It happens intermittently and generally only happens on one monitor.

I've tried:

  • Swapping out the Cables
  • Swapping out the Monitors (different model)
  • Using a DisplayLink Dock all to no avail.
  • Repairing Boot Camp
  • Installing the HD Graphics Drivers directly from intel
  • Installing the monitor drivers directly from Dell

Nothing has successfully resolved the problem permanently.

The two monitor models I have experienced the issue are the Dell U2415 and U2412M.

I've tried having them both the same model, one of each and it continues to happen on each one regardless of the port its plugged into. I believe it has happened to both at the same time but it is a rare occurrence.

This is happening on two different MacBooks (same model and config) so I'm fairly certain it is a compatibility or driver issue and not a hardware malfunction.

The cables I have been using are those included with the monitor from Dell as well as StarTech.com and CableMatters. I am going to try Amazon and Moonrise Cables to see if this makes a difference they somewhat recently started making this cable type.

Thanks for any help any one can provide.
