If you used the Workout app, your workout may have accidentally been paused or ended early.
This can happen if the watch loses contact with your skin, causing it to believe that it has been removed from your wrist. This would cause the Workout app to pause automatically. A loose fitting band can trigger this by allowing your watch to lift from your wrist and/or by allowing clothing (for example, the end of a sleeve) to slip beneath the back of the watch.
During exercise, Apple Watch should be worn snugly on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening your band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards. Better contact with your wrist may also improve heart rate sensor performance during your workout.
Also, to avoid accidental interactions with your watch during your workout (including ending workouts early), you can lock the screen. At any time after starting a workout, press firmly on the display and tap on Lock. When you are ready to end the workout, press firmly again and first tap on Unlock.

Apr 14, 2016 11:35 PM in response to Pacman15by Jonathan UK,If you are instead referring to the Exercise ring, note that, to credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk. The definition of a brisk walk depends upon your personal information.
To check that your personal information is accurate:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch tab > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.
During general daily wear, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of crediting progress towards the Exercise goal. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you move around.
If you take your iPhone along on outdoor walks and record the activity using the Workout app, your watch can also use GPS data from your iPhone to help estimate speed and distance. However, Exercise credit will still only be awarded for periods of activity that meet or exceed the equivalent of a brisk walk.
Calibrating your watch also helps to improve the accuracy of various estimations (including Exercise credit) made by the Activity app and Workout app. More information and instructions for calibrating your watch are available via the link below.
