Q: photos won't open recently imported photo

I imported photos from a SDHC card to photos. The message said "successfully imported X photos". The thumbnails appear, but when I try to open the photo I get a triangle with an exclamation point. When I try to move the photo to my desktop, I get the error message 'DSCFO124.RAF the operation couldn't be completed. (export error -1)"

any ideas?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

do you have a managed or referenced library?

    What camera are you using?

And you state that you have OS X 10.11.1 - the current software is OS X 10.11.4 with Photos 1.5 - you should upgrade - there are new features and lots of bug fixes.

Where is your Photos Library stored? In your Pictures folder or on an external drive?

Has it been the first time you tried to import RAW photos from that camera or did it work previously and could you edit the photos?

I don't know if I have a managed or referenced library.

the camera I'm using is a fujifilm XF-1. this is the first time I've tried to download pictures from it to my mac. I looked for firmware at the fujifilm website and only found 'updates'.

It says I'm using el Capitan 10.11.2. I'll check for updates. and photos 1.3.

    Thanks for your reply!

Hi Leonie, thanks for your help.

My photos library is in Photos. I don't think I have a "pictures folder" that sounds very microsoft-y! I just open Photos, and there are all my photos.

I always shoot RAW files, and been able to edit them. I've imported them from cards formatted by my Canon and Olympus cameras. This is from my Fujifilm camera, and its the first time I've imported from it.

    Thanks again!

I'm sure you have one. The Pictures folder is created by MacOS X in your Home folder, along with the folders  Desktop, Music, Movies, Public, Downloads, etc.  It has a special folder icon, and when you create photo libraries they will be created in this folder, unless you pick a different folder.  Depending on your primary system language, these predefined folders may have different names.

I do not see a fujifilm XF-1  on the list of supported cameras. There may not yet be a digital RAW support for this camera.

Oh, I see. I've never looked in my "home' folder! As you can see, I don't know a lot about my computer; I just use it.

I switched the camera to JPEG and the photo I took imported and I could open it in Photos.

Thank you Leonie! It isn't the answer I wanted, but it is a correct one!

P.S. When I click the "this solved my question" under Leonie's reply, nothing happens. ??

    You're welcome

You could convert your RAW files to DNG files, for the time being, until your camera will be supported. This way, you can still work with RAW files.

I just checked, Adobe DNG converter supports this camera:
