Macbook pro having kernel panics

My mid-2012 macbook pro kernel panics and just shuts off at random lately. It's not super frequent, but I can usually expect it every couple of weeks - sometimes more sometimes less. I haven't noticed a correlation to anything I'm doing on the computer at the time - sometimes browsing the internet, word processing, etc. Most recently I had opened Spotify and was browsing playlists.
