Q: mute the turn on sound

There is a sound that plays when I turn on my iMac, I want to mute that. I have the sound on mute; the output for sounds to headphones, with headphones plugged in; all notifications off. And still when I turn on that sound plays.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), PhotoShop CS6

Hi, people usually mute the laptop before shutting down via the Speak with no sound icon on the keyboard. I believe the chime is needed as it is the indicator that the Mac has performed it's Power-ON Seft test and diagnostics.

There are a few tricks you can try - I havent tried myself but there seems to be advice in this article to permanently mute the chime:
