Q: How big is my Photos library?

I'm trying to work out how much iCloud storage I would need to enable iCloud Photo Library.

In Finder, info reports:

iPhoto Library -  48Gb

Photos Library - 58Gb

Within the Photos app info from the top 'Photos' tells me I've got 11,000 photos, 223 Videos and gives the size as 32Gb.  Videos are 5Gb of that.

What explains the huge difference between the size reported within Photos and the size of the library?

Your Photos library is 58 GB

You will need the 200 GB Plan  --  iCloud storage pricing - Apple Support

When you look in Photos you are seeing the size of the photos with no versions or support files - basically what you would get if you exported all the photos - the finder reports the disk used which includes database files, versions of photos and other needed support items
